actually learning about the history of christianity is the most dangerous thing possible to evangelicalism, which is a reactionary ideology that seeks to erase history so it can make the ridiculous claim that its very particular brand of morality and theology is the true form of christianity that has always existed
@dankwraith I just remember when I was in my college ministry group and I asked the head pastor about my college course on Paul and what he thought about it. And he told me it was all lies and that I shouldn't take it so seriously because we were at a secular school.
And then stopped taking my faith seriously because I started interpreting the Pauline letters using the history of him I had learned.
I love when the church stops you from thinking
@magicalmilly lol this is exactly what happened to me when i started studying spiritual traditions of slaves in the american south and their relevance to christian theology. "oh youre in a class taught by a liberal none of it is real" yeah fucking right sorry i have a brain and can use it to perform critical analysis
That's why I'm currently feeling really fucking poised to tear it all down and start it over.
I'm just gonna start mini house churches or the online equivalent to start a movement, okay? Okay.
