I ended up reading the essay I got for kew using scihub and it's extremely interesting. Probably the most unexpected part of it comes at page 11 where it talks about how most surveyed had some kind of psychic experience growing up

They use a very small sample size (26 people total) but I do think it's telling of something. There's probably a connection here between historical third gender identities being connected with religious and spiritual aspects of the culture and the data we are looking at here

@SunSaint @wintgenstein oh HELL yes, religion madness AND gay gender experiences???? this is my SHIT

@byttyrs if you want the full essay go to sci-hub and type in "Third Gender: A Qualitative Study of the Experience of Individuals Who Identify as Being Neither Man nor Woman"

@SunSaint this was what initially made me seek out the article!! it's fascinating

@SunSaint another one that's cited in that article that i found interesting was called "Male Cross-Gender Behavior in Myanmar (Burma): A Description of the Acault" . it goes deeper into the one example of the role 3rd gender folk have in burmese religious culture, including how they're summoned to their role by a goddess. you can find it on the same site u linked me

@dankwraith if you don't mind me asking, what were those experiences like?
